The price of a flight includes more than just the plane ticket. Included as well are airport fees and government taxes. These surcharges are beyond the control of VJS Travel and the airlines. They are gathered by airports and authorities. Below is a brief rundown of the several domestic and international taxes and levies that could be imposed on your ticket purchase.
U.S. Federal Segment Fee
This per-segment cost applies to domestic flights within the United States. It covers journeys originating or terminating in the US as well as those traveling internationally.
- Code: ZP
- Amount: $5.20 per flight segment
Domestic Transportation Tax, Ticket Tax, and Excise Tax in the United States
This tax will be applied based on the price of your airfare. Considered pertinent for:
- Domestic transportation flights
- Air travel within the US and those countries with neighboring international buffer zones, such as Canada and Mexico
- Country of origin: USA
- In sum: 7.5% of the cost of the ticket
Alaska/Hawaii Ticket Tax and Transportation Facilities Tax
Flights departing from the US mainland and landing in either Hawaii or Alaska are subject to this fee.
- Country of origin: USA
- Price: $11.40 per unit
Passenger Facility Charge (PFC)
The purpose of this charge is to finance the improvement of airport infrastructure. The airport decides on the fee.
- A maximum of $4.50 for the airport fee
- You are permitted a maximum of four charges per itinerary
- Code: XF
- The most that can be achieved is $18.00
September 11th Security Fee
(also known as U.S. Passenger Civil Aviation Security Fee)
Make a one-way payment of $5.60 or a round-trip payment of $11.20 to assist with U.S. aviation security efforts. There may be multiple instances of the charge for itineraries that incorporate layovers.

- Cost: $5.60 for each return journey
U.S. Foreign Arrival/Departure Tax on Transportation
- This fee applies to all international flights into and out of the United States
- It costs $22.90 to fly from the US to US territory like the Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico
The American Veterinary Health Institute (APHIS) Assessment Process
This fee applies to flights arriving at the following airports from countries other than the United States (excluding Canada):
- American national
- Possession of the island
- U.S. Virgin Islands
- Code: XA
- Amount: $3.84
U.S. Immigration and Inspection Fee
As soon as you touch down at any of these major airports:
- American national
- Ponce Island in the United States
- American Virgin Islands
- Code: XY
- The price is $7
The Expense of a U.S. Customs Inspection
This applies to travelers from other nations who arrive in the United States and need to go through customs.

- Amount: $7.39
